The Boutwell Early Childhood Center is an 8 classroom school serving students in preschool and kindergarten. An extended day program is offered both before and after school. All of our classrooms have highly qualified teachers and at least one full-time educational assistant. The Boutwell Early Childhood Center provides a wide range of special education and support services. A speech pathologist, resource room teacher, occupational and physical therapist, and reading specialist as well as music, art and physical education teachers are on staff.
The staff at the Boutwell Early Childhood Center continues to be actively involved in several professional development opportunities such as courses and workshops to remain current with educational trends. They participate in before and after school study groups to examine the curriculum and to explore the concepts of valid updated programs, such as a full day kindergarten. The staff also takes part in curriculum improvement time throughout the year.
Our school offers a wide range of learning experiences for the children through a developmental approach to appropriate curriculum. We utilize the Houghton Mifflin English Language Arts, Math Trailblazers, and Harcourt Science programs for content instruction. Social Studies at the Kindergarten level are taught through thematic themes and experiences relative to the life of young children. Our curriculum aligns with both state and federal frameworks and gives our students well rounded educational experiences.
Technology continues to be updated with Internet access available and at least one computer in every classroom. Every staff member in the building has e-mail access and well developed web pages. Students have weekly access to a state of the art computer lab that allows them to receive opportunities to enhance our curriculum though technology.
Parents are active at the Boutwell Early Childhood Center through their participation in the Parent Advisory Council and parent volunteer activities. The PAC provides meaningful opportunities for parents, as well as fundraising efforts to expand student’s enrichment and curriculum experiences.
