WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee and Wilmington Public Schools are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. David L. Thomson as Interim Superintendent for the 2025–2026 school year.

Dr. Thomson brings more than 30 years of experience in public education, having served in a variety of leadership roles including Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Principal, Assistant Principal, and classroom teacher. Most recently, he served as Interim Superintendent for Mashpee Public Schools. Prior to that, he led Norwood Public Schools as Superintendent and served as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Assessment, Technology, and ELL at Blackstone Millville Regional School District.

A champion for academic excellence and inclusive education, Dr. Thomson has a proven record of supporting all students—particularly those from diverse and historically marginalized backgrounds. He has successfully facilitated the development and implementation of five-year strategic plans, equity audits, and initiatives to recruit and retain diverse staff, foster inclusive learning environments, and enhance instructional practices.

Dr. Thomson holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Northeastern University and has also taught as an adjunct professor at Worcester State University and American International College. His leadership has been recognized statewide and nationally: he was named Massachusetts Middle School Principal of the Year in 2010, served on the National Association of Secondary School Principals Executive Board, and was President of the Massachusetts Principals Association. He is also a proud recipient of the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award.

"With a strong background in educational leadership and a commitment to collaboration, Dr. Thomson is well-positioned to guide Wilmington Public Schools through the coming year," said School Committee Chair Jesse Fennelly and Vice Chair Jennifer Bryson. "He will be reaching out to educators, administrators, families, and community partners to begin building relationships and laying the groundwork for a successful year ahead."

Please join the Wilmington School Committee and the entire school community in warmly welcoming Dr. Thomson to Wilmington.
